Chances are that many Baby Boomers will experience some type of eye health concerns. However, most don’t know the risks and early warning signs of diseases that could blind them without treatment.
In 2006 survey by the National Eye Institute, 71% of respondents said losing their eyesight would have a devastating affect on their daily life, but only 8% were aware that there are no early warning signs of glaucoma, a disease that can damage the optic nerve and result in vision loss and blindness. The survey also revealed the following:
Fifty-one percent had heard that glaucoma increases the risk of developing eye disease, but only 11% knew there are usually no warning signs.
