I love quirky news that surprises with the added ping of being true. Des Moines, IA media reported on a lady who overcame her initial self-consciousness at drinking beer by herself at an airport pub after she saw another woman of similar age doing the same thing.

"What's wrong with a single, independent woman having a cold beer while she's waiting for her flight? It's perfectly normal. Just ask that lady over there,” she was quoted as saying. She was about to approach the other lady for a chat then realized it was her reflection in the mirror.
So maybe the bar was dark or maybe she had more than one beer, but the message is still important. We looked to others – our parents who to give us permission to be independent and our role models to guide and advise on being smart and self reliant. With few of our mentors still viable, it’s all about the me I see in my mirror and the you in yours who will lead the way down this road of longer life and extended careers. Let me know when you’ve figured it out.
