“Enchanted”, Walt Disney’s tribute/parody of the classic animation upon which boomers were raised, has just received three nominations for the 80th Academy Awards. I’m certain Susan Sarandon, who plays the witch Narissa in the film, will walk the runway, looking absolutely stunning. And probably not feeling any guilt whatsoever for perpetrating stereotypes of aging women as old, evil hags with supernatural power to destroy young people.

I really liked the film. But to tell you the truth, not having seen a Disney witch since the kids were young, I was shocked to find myself identifying with the witch. Not the plot line (you know, witch is jealous of young princess, throws her into well, when that doesn’t finish the job, tries the old poisoned apple trick.) Rather, how she looks physically.
Maybe it’s all those makeover programs. But I kept thinking to myself:
• Laser hair removal to pinpoint the hairs on her chin
• A great osteoporosis medicine and pilates for the hump
• A high-quality fall to cover her thinning hair
• At least Botox, if not a full face lift—and nose surgery
• Teeth implants.
On the other hand, it’s a look. And it would be lots easier just to buy a broom and be done with it.
More popcorn please.
