Almost Immortal or Ageism?

As if it isn’t scary enough that women in their early 30s are shooting their foreheads full of botulinum toxin A (more euphemistically known as “Botox® “) to clench onto the slippery fountain of youth—now one author predicts we can “cure” aging, arguing that the aging process is merely a disease. Sounds like Mork from Ork to me.

Boomer Wanted, Part 5

This blog is part five of a blog series culminating in the release of a white paper on the subject to our subscribers. Please stay tuned as we continue this series.

What’s the next great boomer revolution? Demographers already see signs of the boomers’ next act of defiance: keeping a tight grip on the helm in American business well beyond midlife. Coupled with the dearth of younger talent coming up in the age ranks, factoring in the longer anticipated work cycle of boomers, and the need for boomer-centric management models is evident. We refer to the cornerstones of this new management model as “the Four R’s”, retention, redeployment, recruitment, retirement. Capping the Four R’s is the hot “S” button of succession. Recalibrating these functions is not a matter of accommodating the so-called Me Generation. It’s central to successful transitions within the organization and assuring a solid foundation for future economic health and vitality. The “Four R’s” are, in brief:

The New Normal

When it comes to aging, there isn’t such a thing as normal, anymore. Is it normal, for instance, when you age to have knees that ache from time to time? Or should you go for knee surgery. To require reading glasses? Or go for laser. To pee more frequently? To be less adept at (or interested in) sexual performance? Or to take wonder drugs.

Defining Denial

Boomer experts have found the edges of quantitative research. It’s called denial.

• Boomers who say they have no plans to ever retire.
• Boomers who say the younger generations in the workplace love and respect them, and will patiently wait their turn for leadership.
• Boomers who are sure they’ve saved enough money to travel the world whenever and wherever they want.

…and so on.
