I am reminded by Beverly Mahone, bestselling author, blogger, speaker and regular reader of TheBoomerBlog.com that this headline is, in fact, a trick question. As we know, boomer women come from multiple ethnicities, religions, geographies, economic strata and so on and on.

Happily, the Internet engages many of us in conversation so that we can learn from one another. And in Beverly’s case, laugh with one another, as well. On her website www.EnjoyYourMenopause.com, she writes:
“For the past couple of years, I've been keeping company with the seven dwarfs of menopause. Maybe you know them: Sweaty, Bloated, Itchy, Bitchy, Forgetful, Sleepy and All Dried Up...” Beverly goes on to say: “I am an African-American woman eager to engage in dialogue about the changes I'm going through. Menopause does not discriminate. It is an equal opportunity annoyer!”
There is a serious message beneath Beverly’s good, and welcome, humor. Beverly explains that her mother and many of her generation in her community suffered in silence about menopause. For Beverly, giving voice to a new generation of African American women, she proclaims: “Yes, I'm steppin' out because I want the world to know I am the new face of menopause… It means I am embracing this new phase of my life. It means I am not going to suffer in silence like my mother and so many other women like her did…”
