Most boomers understand that the cost of
health care after they reach 65 will be
substantial, but most haven't a clue as
to the actual cost. Studies from major
research companies have indicated that
a 65 year old couple retiring in 2007
will spend out-of pocket in excess of
$240,000 during the remainder of their
combined lifetimes. This figure includes
Medicare premiums, supplemental health
insurance premiums and any costs not
paid by either like prescription drugs,
co-pays and non-covered health related
expenses.
Few boomers have planned for this kind
of expense. Most will have to work in
some capacity to afford it.
